A few weeks later, Brenda had had the play clothes made, and given
them to the children. Mrs. Fraumeni had gone to get the new teacher, for she had decided who she wanted to teach at the school.
She would be gone for a month! ‘A whole month of my own rules!’ Brenda thought. She decided to take the
intermediates on an outing in their new play clothes so they could act like real students. She was going to take them around
London to see the sites.
Carrying her Amabile bag, Brenda walked out of the back gate and
waved the children out.
"Where are we going?" They asked her. But she just smiled and ate their cheese goldfish. They
emerged one by one, carrying toys and picnic baskets. Each wore a different outfit made from the green drapes. The boys wore
overall shorts, and the girls wore smocked dresses. Grinning, Brenda closed the gate and ran after them.
They boarded the city bus for the first time and rode to the western
fair. Brenda bought them all all day passes to all the rides.
"Everyone, we’ll meet back here at 11:00. Remember, we have
to have enough time to go to our next destination. . ." Brenda said with a mischievous glint in her eye. The children sprinted
their separate ways. The little groupies of preps and such going one way and the others, going another, towards
what they wanted to do first.
"Ms. Zadorsky!" Hannah called. Brenda turned and smiled at her.
"Would you like to come ride the rides with us?" She asked gesturing towards the rather large group behind her, consisting
of many people, grade 7's and 8's, such as Christie, Patty, Amelia, Allisa, Kelly, Kim, Laura, Maddy, Shannah, Mimma, Jessica,
Alison, Christine, Stephanie and more.
"It would be a pleasure." Brenda stated and walked over to them.
"We’ve never been here before Ms. Zadorsky. . .could you suggest
some rides for us to go on?" Shannah asked with unease. She was indeed telling the truth. None of them had been there before,
as they weren’t allowed any fun, because they had so much homework to do. The needed her help desperately.
"Of course! Now, what kind of rides do you like?. . ." From then
on, an instant bond was made between Brenda and these children. They liked her, and she liked them. A couple hours later,
the grade 7's and 8's were boarding the bus to go to the next destination. While they were on their way there, they saw a
turkey on the side of the road.
"Look over here!" Brenda exclaimed.
"Oh, look at the way
he waddles!" Maddy shouted. The bus rolled on, but to where. . . none of the children knew.
"Where could she be taking us?" Allisa asked Christie in a low voice
at the back of the bus.
"I don’t know. . .she’s rather odd this one." Christie
replied.
"I bet were going to go to Centennial or some place like that."
Shannah cut in loudly.
"Shut up!" hissed Jessica. "If she’s going to take us anywhere,
it will be to see a random play."
"Yeah right!"
"You’ve got to be kidding!"
"I hope it’s the Sound of Music!"
"Can we drop this topic? Its going to ruin the surprise!" Mimma
said, always the party pooper.
"Fine. Lets play chocolate poo! I’ll start. . ." With that,
a rather long game of chocolate poo was started, starting with computer, and ending with leafless dog. But no one stopped
wondering where they were going. . .
They would soon find out. The bus pulled up to the market place
in downtown London. They got off of it, and walked inside.
"Alright, same rules as at the fair. We’ll meet back here
in 30 minutes." Brenda said.
"Thirty minutes!" The children complained. "That’s not nearly
enough time to eat!"
"Oh were not eating here. Were just buying some stuff for the picnic.
In thirty minutes, we’ll be leaving for our picnic." Brenda explained.
"As long as we eat" Peter said hungrily patting his stomach. So,
the children walked around the building again, and Brenda joined up with Hannah, Patty, Shannah, Peter, Mimma, Christine,
Jessica, and Christie. They went to buy some fruit. Brenda picked out furit, handed it to Peter, who passed it down the line
to Mimma, who put it into the basket Shannah was holding.
"Ho!" Brenda exclaimed holding up 4 tomatoes to. She pretended
to juggle them, waving her hands in the air without actually letting go. She looked at the children in the line, who knew
she wasn’t actually juggling. Smiling, she put two of them back ,and began to juggle the other two.
She stopped, tossed one to Christie who put it in the basket, then
tossed the other to Patty who dropped it. The ripe tomato splattered on the ground. Patty looked up nervously at Brenda frowning,
but Brenda just held up a mock-warning finger. That made Patty feel better. So much better that he grinned, showing his braces,
that he never showed to anyone.
They finished their shopping, met up with the others and boarded
the school bus to the next destination, all content with what had happened.
