"Ms, did I not tell you that indoor recess is to be strictly observed
in this school?" She said obviously displeased.
"Well, the children were upset by the storm, so I thought that if I
..." Brenda realized that her bickering would get her nowhere, so she surrendered "You did, Mam."
"And do you or do
you not have difficulty remembering such simple instructions?"
"Only during thunderstorms, Mam." Brenda spoke up. Peter
laughed at this. Mrs. Fraumeni glared at the few children. She opened her mouth to say something, when Brenda interrupted.
"Come along children. You heard the Major. Go back to your classrooms immediately."
"Ms, you have managed to remember
that I'm leaving in the morning?" Brenda nodded "Is it also possible that you remember that the first rule in this school
is discipline?" She nodded again reluctantly. "Then I trust that before I return you will have acquired some?" Brenda was
outraged, but she wasn’t going to show it. She wanted to make the children some play clothes after all.
"Major?
Uh, I wonder if, before you go, I could talk to you about some new clothes for the students ..."
"Ms. Zadorsky
..." Mrs. Fraumeni interrupted
"... for when they play. If I could just have some money ..." Brenda continued, but
Mrs. Fraumeni wouldn’t have this.
"You are obviously many things, not the least of which is repetitious." She
said in a wavering tone.
"But they're children!"
"Yes. And I am their principal. Good day." Mrs. Fraumeni left
the room, closing the door behind her. Brenda was furious!
"Oh!" She shouted. She looked around angrily, sat on a chair next
to the window, and through her Amabile jacket across the room. She looked at a window drape decorated with green flowers.
She stood up and took the drape in her hands. An idea popped into her head. She didn’t need that money to buy clothes!
She already had some. Brenda thought that perhaps she could go to a dress makers, and get the drapes made into casual uniforms.
It just might work. . . she would have to wait and see.
